Pet Health Insurance Month
I am Lambeau! I am a 5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog and I live with my mom, Dr. Kayla Kulhanek (I also have four kitty siblings!). September is Pet Health Insurance Month so I am here to get you excited about it and tell you how it can help you care for your four-legged friend.
Being a pet owner is wonderful and fulfilling, but it is also a big responsibility. Pet insurance is a fantastic way to help provide your pet with the medical care and treatment they may need throughout their life. I have many furry friends who like to eat things they shouldn’t (and “maybe” I have been in trouble a few times myself). Do you have a pet like that? If so, you should really consider getting pet health insurance. There are many companies out there to choose from, so let me tell you about a couple of great companies. At Crossroads, we like Embrace Pet Insurance and ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. In our experience, these companies usually have the best rates and have less restrictions than other insurance companies! Quite a few of our clients use one of these two companies and one of our clients had a claim covered 100% by Embrace (after meeting their annual deductible). That claim was for a surgery that was needed because the dog ate something that wasn’t meant to be eaten! That invoice was over $1,000!!!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve overheard the doctors talk about a patient needing some unforeseen surgery, being diagnosed with a serious disease or having an accident that can be expensive to treat. If this happened to your pet, wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have to worry as much about the cost of treatment? Tumor removals, cancer treatments, injury-inducing accidents and many other scenarios can all be covered by health insurance. Wellness visits can be covered too! Products and services ranging from heartworm and flea/tick preventatives to annual blood work and dental cleanings can be reimbursed! Very cool, right?! We highly recommend getting pet insurance as soon as you get your new pet, especially if they are young. Puppies and kittens (usually) don’t have any preexisting conditions and you should be able to get insurance easily. If you adopt an older dog, don’t panic! You should still consider pet insurance as there are companies that can help you!
